Press speculation has already begun over possible new Daybreak presenters with Eamonn Holmes and Natasha Kaplinsky both emerging as ‘favourites’.
As yet the departures of Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles has yet to be officially confirmed but the press are seemingly taking it for granted that both presenters are exiting Daybreak. Once again stories emerged over the weekend claiming the two were being dropped from the GMTV replacement as bosses attempted to turn around its flagging fortunes. It was only a matter of time before the press began to suggest possible replacements.
Two names that have quickly emerged are Eamonn Holmes and Natasha Kaplinsky who are already familiar to breakfast audiences due to their past works. Holmes was a presenter on GMTV before moving to Sky News where he currently presents Sunrise – he is also one of the presenters on ITV’s This Morning. If Holmes were to start presenting duties on Daybreak it would bring the show closer together with ITV‘s other daytime brands. Kaplinsky was one of the presenters on BBC Breakfast during her time at the BBC before she defected to Channel Five News – she joined ITV News earlier this year.
Current BBC Breakfast presenter Sian Williams has also been tipped by some to be poached by ITV. Williams was one of a number of BBC employees to decline moving to Salford – Breakfast will move to the northern city shortly. Poaching Williams from Breakfast could be a major coup for ITV especially given the popularity of the BBC programme over that of struggling Daybreak.
