The second season of Game of Thrones drew to a close on Sunday evening with Valar Morghulis drawing a massive 4.2 million viewers. That figure represents the first time that the fantasy drama has broken the 4 million viewers mark for a first time airing. In all the episode drew 5.1 million viewers for the night when repeats are factored in.
The ratings high for Game of Thrones came after its penultimate episode, Battle of the Blackwater, saw a slight dip in ratings. However, most industry experts put the dip down to the holiday weekend rather than a sign of fans drifting away at the last moment. The excellent performance of the finale confirms that line of thought.
