The six-part drama recently concluded its first run, during which it out-performed the slot average for ITV2 – the show was consistently in the channel’s top ten shows each week for its six episodes. Broadcast reports the series averaged 704,000 viewers per episode with the slot average being much lower at 436,000.
Switch starred former EastEnders actresses Lacey Turner and Nina Toussaint-White alongside Phoebe Fox and Hannah Tointon as four witches who live in the London borough of Camden – the show was filmed in and around Camden Lock Market. Switch also starred former Footballers Wives’ actor Jamie Davis and another ex-EastEnders actress; Amanda Drew.
The news of the shwio’s axe was first broke by Nina Toussaint-White who tweeted ‘Bad news…. No more Switch’. The news was later confirmed by an ITV spokesperson who told Broadcast ‘It remains our ambition to have more scripted drama and comedy as part of the programme offering on ITV2, and while it will not be returning for a second series, we feel Switch was a confident start to this strategy’
ATV Today’s television critic Queenie Le Trout was a fan of Switch: “ITV2 actually had a decent drama in Switch; it was funny, well written, well acted and was a complete guilty pleasure. It’s a shame ITV2 have been so short sighted as to axe it especially when it gave them some decent ratings. But then this is the channel that gave us TOWIE so what can one expect?”
