ToriesJeremy Hunt, the culture secretary, has claimed that most BBC employees vote either Labour or Liberal Democrat. The Conservative MP made the comments in an interview with The Observer and although he praised the BBC for its programming and news output his comments regarding general election voting is sure to anger some within the corporation.

“I think if you were to discover how people vote at the BBC there are probably more who vote Labour or for the Liberal Democrats than the Conservatives.” – Jeremy Hunt in The Observer

Hunt also criticised the BBC’s decision to air an edition of Panorama which focused on corruption at Fifa just days before a vote on the 2018 World Cup. Hunt has sided with those who believe it was the BBC’s edition of Panorama – forgetting the Sunday Times articles a few weeks before on similar issues – which caused England to loose its World Cup bid. Hunt claimed “it was a nightmare” though the corporation has defended its right to broadcast the Panorama ahead of the decision by Fifa.

Last week the culture secretary’s surname was mispronounced on BBC Radio Four by James Naughtie who tripped over announcing him as Jeremy Hunt, culture secretary. Instead Naughtie accidentally used the most offensive word in the English language and later in the day Andrew Marr repeated the word when describing the incident. Meanwhile in the House of Commons the word was also accidentally used by an MP when discussing budget cuts.
