Rupert Murdoch has confirmed his “total commitment” for The Sun newspaper following the latest arrests today.

The CEO of News Corporation, the parent company of News International, has spoken via chief executive Tom Mockridge to give his assurance that Murdoch wants to continue to publish and own the daily newspaper.

“The Sun has a proud history of delivering ground-breaking journalism. You should know that I have had a personal assurance today from Rupert Murdoch about his total commitment to continue to own and publish The Sun newspaper.” – Internal memo sent to staff today.

Five current employees were arrested this morning as part of Operation Elveden which is investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials. The memo continued: “Today we are facing our greatest challenge”.

Reports suggest that Murdoch is coming to the UK to reassure staff personally.
