It’s been announced that Neil Wilkes is to step-down from his role as editor of Digital Spy.
Wilkes co-founded the entertainment news site in 1999 with James Welsh. It has since grown to become one of the leading sites of its kind. The site not only covers soap, cult and general media news but also a wide range of other topics such as Bollywood, Gaming and Reality Television.
“As things stand, my employment contract with the company is due to expire at the end of this year. Now, as you all know I love Digital Spy very dearly, it’s been my baby for almost 12 years!, but I have made the very, very tough decision not to renew my contract beyond next March.” – Neil Wilkes’ email to staff
In 2008 Digital Spy was purchased by Hachette Filipacchi UK who own publications such as Inside Soap, Elle and Red. Earlier this year the site was subject to a revamp.
Wilkes’ successor has not yet been named, however he is expected to remain in the role of editor until at least March 2011.
