South Africa’s main television network will broadcast a show Saturday featuring the late Reeva Steenkamp.
The model had taken part in Tropika Island of Treasure for SABC 1 which sees celebrities do battle to win 1 million rand (£72,500). The show was filmed some time ago and producers have said that the episode on Saturday will be dedicated to Reeva.
“As we grieve today with Reeva’s family and friends and struggle to make sense of this shocking tragedy, it has taken much deliberation to come to the decision to continue screening Tropika Island of Treasure 5 as planned.” – Executive Producer Samantha Moon
Reeva Steenkamp was found shot dead at the home of Paralympian and Olympian athlete Oscar Pistorius on Valentine’s Day morning.
Pistorius appeared at a court in Pretoria on Friday where he was told that prosecutors vowed to pursue a charge of premeditated murder. The icon of Paralympic sport wept in court as the judge spoke of the allegations.
Hundreds of reporters from around the world gathered in Pretoria to see Pistorius at court. It has been reported that many in South Africa see what happened on 14 February as a ‘tragic accident’.
As one of the most high profile athletes in the world, Oscar dominated the London Paralympic games last year, picking up two gold medals and a silver. He also competed in the Olympic games becoming first double leg amputee to participate but failed to pick up any medals.
