Doctor-Who-original-logoRelative newcomer Sarah Winter has been cast in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special An Adventure Space and Time.

Winter will play Delia Derbyshire in the special drama; Derbyshire was the woman who created the original theme tune for Doctor Who in 1963. Although the theme tune has been updated many times over the years Derbyshire’s version still remains an iconic piece of television history and a fan favourite.

Winter is the latest casting announced for the BBC Two drama which charts the genesis of Doctor Who and its early years on-air. Writer and actor Mark Gatiss has penned An Adventure Space and Time and it will likely air on BBC Two in November.

The confirmed cast for the drama now stands as:

David Bradley as William Hartnell
Jamie Glover as William Russell
Claudia Grant as Carole Ann Ford
Jemma Powell as Jacqueline Hill

Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert
Brian Cox as Sydney Newman
Sacha Dhawan as Waris Hussein
Sarah Winter as Delia Derbyshire

It has also been reported that actor William Russell will appear in the drama as well.
