STV Productions has been commissioned by ITV to make a one-hour celebrity special of all new ‘say what you see’ game show Catchphrase.
The one-off special will feature three celebrities attempting to guess the phrase as depicted by on-screen animations to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charities. The celebrity programme will be presented by new Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern (pictured above in the new look studio).
ITV has commissioned eight forty-five minute regular episodes of the game show which was first introduced to the ITV schedules by TVS in 1986 running until 2002. Mainstay host was comedian Roy Walker with Nick Weir and Mark Curry all trying their hand at holding the show together in later years.
The celebrities taking part are Steve Pemberton of sitcom Benidorm, Kym Lomas from soap Coronation Street and celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager.
The brand new series of Catchphrase is co-produced by STV Productions and DRG. The show created by Pasetta Productions has been updated with a brand new set, exciting 3D graphics and a dynamic new end game STV state.
Gary Chippington, head of entertainment at STV, said: “It is fantastic to be bringing this iconic game show back to ITV viewers. Catchphrase is a much loved show and it is great that a celebrity special of the rejuvenated format has been commissioned – we fully expect the celebs to enjoy it as much as the viewers.”
The celebrity special was commissioned by ITV’s Controller of Entertainment, John Kaye Cooper. A picture special of Catchphrase down the years can be seen here.
