Television presenter and executive Derek Batey has died at the age of 84.
The Mr and Mrs host passed away in Blackpool’s Trinity Hospice last night (17th February) after falling ill on holiday in the US.
Derek was a people person, who was never happier than when he was talking to either a prince of a pauper.
He would do interviews with prime ministers and he could also talk comfortably to the lady next door. It was a great skill which he had. – Former ITV producer Harry King, speaking to News & Star
Batey presented Mr and Mrs between 1967 and 1980 and acted as a consultant on the 2008 reboot of the show with Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton.
Batey, who was the assistant controller of programmes for Border Television, also hosted chat show Look Who’s Talking from 1973 until 1985.
