Home-and-Away-mediumAustralian actor Luke Mitchell has been cast in The CW‘s pilot for its planned Tomorrow People remake.

The remake of the cult ITV series – resurrected briefly in the 1990s – is being helmed by Julie Plec and Greg Berlanti. Plec is currently the show-runner for fellow CW drama series The Vampire Diaries and is also busily preparing possible spin-off series The Originals.

Entertainment Weekly report that Luke Mitchell has been cast in the pilot as John Young. The Tomorrow People revolves around a group of ‘young people’ who have special skills and are described as the next stage of human evolution.

Mitchell will be best known to soap fans for his role of Romeo Smith in the long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away. Mitchell joined the cast in 2009 and will bow out this year on-screen. His other notable roles include H20: Just Add Water and a short stint in soap opera Neighbours as Chris Knight in 2008.
