The STV Player allows viewers within the STV licence areas of Scotland to watch 30 days of catch-up, including STV favourites such as Coronation Street, Britain’s Got Talent and Scotland Tonight.
Alistair Brown, Chief Technology and Platforms Officer at STV, said: “We are committed to STV’s multi-channel offering, making our content available free of charge to our audiences however they choose to consume it. Our anytime, anywhere strategy continues to develop and will now include Windows 8.”
Across currently available platforms, the STV player is achieving 640,000 browsers per month and since the launch in October 2012 the STV Player App on iOS and Android has been downloaded over 340,000 times from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Anand Krishnan, Senior Director, Platform and Evangelism Group at Microsoft Corp., said: “We’re really pleased to see the STV Player land in Windows Store and think that the app is a great example of how media owners are bringing their content to life on Windows 8. Engaging, well-designed apps like the STV Player are a driving factor in the excitement that we’re seeing from consumers around Windows 8.”
The launch of the STV Player on Windows 8 marks further progress with STV’s Anywhere strategy, serving content free across all available platforms.
