BBC Sports’ athletics 2013-14 coverage announced

BBC SportGabby Logan leads the BBC Sport coverage of the very best track and field events from across the UK and Europe.

The beeb continue to be the home of athletics as the broadcaster takes audiences every step of the journey through to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 with more hours of coverage than ever before.

Gabby Logan presents the BBC’s live track and field coverage on television including the return to the BBC for 2013 of the World Athletics Championships from the 10th of August.

Jonathan Edwards and Gabby will anchor the coverage live in Moscow on BBC Television for nine days of events. They’ll also be joined by Olympic legend Michael Johnson who will offer his expert insight as the world’s top competitors fight for track and field honours. Edwards will present in the daytime, with Logan in the evenings.

Gabby Logan, BBC Athletics presenter, says, “What better way could there be to help grow the nation’s interest and excitement in athletics than by offering coverage of the world’s most awe-inspiring track and field events all under one roof, here at the BBC. I’m honoured and excited at the prospect of leading the coverage and looking forward to some exciting competition ahead.”

With increased network television coverage, BBC Two and BBC Three will have more action from IAAF Diamond League events than ever before. There will also be full coverage of the European Team Championships in Gateshead in June – the first major athletics championship in the UK since London 2012.

And after the success of the London 2012, the BBC returns to the Olympic stadium for the Anniversary games featuring superstars Jessica Ennis and Usain Bolt. They’ll be live action on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Radio 5 live in July.

Then as the summer draws to a close the BBC will also turn its eye to Gateshead’s Great City Games and Great North Run from September the 14, Glasgow’s Great Scottish Run (6 October 2013), European Cross Country from Serbia and Edinburgh and the World Indoor Championships from Poland.

As well as coverage being shared across BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Three, athletics fans will be able to access further items via the Red Button including live streaming, live text commentaries, news, reports and highlights via the BBC Sport website.

TV Critic Queenie notes, “Hopefully Gateshead Council will have done something about the state of the area around the international stadium by the time the BBC arrive. Sources tell me the estate nearby has turned into a hovel with horses plonked on public greens, pooing everywhere.”
