Nominees announced for 2012 GLAAD awards

Glee cast, s1. With Mark Salling centre frontThe nominees for this years GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) awards have been announced.

Glee, which won two awards last year is nominated in the Outstanding Comedy category alongside big hitters such as Modern Family and Happy Endings.

In the drama category the Showtime remake of Channel 4’s Shameless will go head to head with Torchwood: Miracle Day, a co-production between Starz in America and the BBC. To see the full list of nominees, click here to be directed to the GLAAD website.

The awards are given out to different sections of the media for their portrayal of LGBT issues.

“As media continue to tell new stories about LGBT people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of LGBT Americans,” said Mike Thompson, GLAAD’s Acting President.
