The spy-drama starring Australian actress Melissa George aired on BBC One in the UK earlier this year and on Cinemax in America. Ratings for the thriller series were disappointing for BBC One which prompted its decision not to order a second series.
The show’s cancellation in the UK prompted speculation that Cinemax would push ahead on its own with a second series or would order a spin-off.
In recent weeks reports have focused on the probability of a spin-off and now Broadcast confirms Cinemax has ordered a four-part series. The spin-off, provisionally titled Sam Hunter, will follow George’s character as she goes on the run from her employers and tries to protect her daughter.
The spin-off will be written by Frank Spotnitz who created Hunted and also wrote for the critically acclaimed cult favourite The X Files, its spin-off The Lone Gunmen, as well as Strike Back, Night Stalker and Millennium. Sam Hunter will be produced by Spotnitz’s own company Big Light Productions in association with Kudos.
