With Paul O’Grady proving pets pull in ratings over on ITV, BBC One is getting in on the act with a six-part series fronted by Ronnie Corbett which the beeb say will show just how potty the Great British public is about pets.
A life-long dog owner Ronnie shares the passion for animals and takes viewers into an extraordinary and entertaining world, where pet owners and breeders put their beloved animals centre stage and are proud to show us why their animals are the very best.
This series celebrates our nation’s love of animals which I share. Though I am finding the latest addition to my family a bit of handful; he’s a very playful rescue dog called Baz, and this series will also be following his progress as he adapts to life in the Corbett household. – Ronnie Corbett
The series, to be aired this summer, follows breeders as they compete in colourful shows, races or trials. It will also feature pet owners whose animals have celebrity status, from diva dogs to pampered pigs.
Animals featured include dogs, cats, mini-pigs, miniature horses, camels and even skunks. The series reveals the lengths to which some people will go to make their pets the best in show.
It is fantastic to be able to welcome a true national treasure, Ronnie Corbett, back to BBC One. Ronnie combined with one of Britain’s favourite passions, pets, feels like a real treat. – Alison Kirkham, BBC Commissioning Editor for Factual Features and Formats.
Corbett is best known for his long running partnership with the late Ronnie Barker and their Two Ronnies sketch show.
