Jennifer Lopez is “close” to signing a deal to return to American Idol.

The singer is reportedly close to agreeing a deal to return to the judging panel of the Fox entertainment series. Lopez was a judge on the 10th and 11th series of the show alongside Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson.

For the recent 12th season Lopez and Tyler were replaced on the panel by Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj who reportedly did not get along with each other. Neither are expected to return for the 13th season with Randy Jackson also slating he is to leave.

Speculation as to Lopez’s return has been rife for some time, however sources connected to the show have previously denied that it is on the cards.

One name confirmed for the judges panel on the 13th season is Keith Urban. American Idol has had a revolving door of judges since the departures of Paula Abdul after the 8th season and Simon Cowell at the end of the 9th; Cowell left to be a judge on the American version of The X Factor. Amongst the other judges drafted in over subsequent seasons are Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.
