Daybreak, edition oneChristine Bleakley is to remain with ITV reports today suggest. The former face of Daybreak is to join the likes of Lynda Bellingham, Ade Edmondson, Caroline Quentin and Martin Clunes in another UK-based travel series.

Bleakley joined the broadcaster in a £4 million exclusive deal which recently came to an end. However ITV seem keen to try and find at least one success for the presenter following low ratings for all the shows she’s so far presented including That Dog Can Dance and dwindling Dancing On Ice viewing figures since she replaced Holly Willoughby on the show.

The former presenter of BBC One’s The One Show was lured to ITV in 2010 to pull in viewers to their breakfast schedules which had been in decline with GMTV over several  years. However Daybreak fronted by Bleakley and fellow One Show co-host Adrian Chiles proved to be a viewer turn off. Little over a year later and both she and Chiles were axed from the sofa.

ITV always struggled to find anything for her to do. They tried a number of pilots but they just didn’t work. All the while other presenters have bagged new shows such as Splash!, which could easily have gone to her. – ITV Insider speaking to The Sun

Bleakley will front Country Roads the latest in a long line of out-and-about documentary series’ which ITV have aired in recent times. The Sun reports that the show will highlight interesting locations in the UK to spend a holiday.

Shame they can’t revive Wish You Were Here? and send her all around the world, we’d be able to watch and think ‘I’m so glad I’m not there’. And if we’re lucky maybe she might get lost on the way back, which would be lovely. – TV critic Queenie
