The talent show returns to BBC One next year for a third season but without vocal coaches Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue both of whom have announced their departures. There are also rumours that Will.i.am will quit the series as well to join American Idol.
The Sun reports that Will.i.am has put forward Cheryl Cole’s name to the producers to replace him. However, bosses of The Voice have ruled out Cole, according to the tabloid, because of her close association with The X Factor.
Cole was a judge on the ITV series between 2008 and 2010 when she departed to be a judge, alongside Simon Cowell, on the American X Factor. After just a few days in the role Cole was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger. There have been constant rumours in the press about Cole returning to the British X Factor or joining the judges panels of shows such as Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice and Strictly Come Dancing.
If Will.i.am follows Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue and quits that will leave Tom Jones as the only remaining original judge.
