HBO-mediumActress Eve Hewson has been signed up to appear in HBO’s Cinemax ten part period drama The Knick.

The saga follows the story of New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital as staff work to research advances in medical cures and medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. Set in 1900 the series is being produced by Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh.

Hewson will star opposite Clive Owen as a nurse named Lucy who Deadline describe as “a young, naive nurse from the South” who heads to New York in search of fun and adventure.

We are thrilled that Steven and Clive have chosen to bring this unique and exciting series to Cinemax  – Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, said in a statement last month

Also lined up to appear in The Knick Michael Angarano, Andre Holland and Juliet Rylance. The series heads into production in New York next month.

The Knick is the latest original series for HBO’s sister network Cinemax, the broadcaster has been in recent years boostings its homegrown drama output.
