Michelle Collins will leave Coronation Street in 2014 ITV have confirmed this morning.
Collins, best known for her role as Cindy Beale in BBC One saga EastEnders, is to depart Corrie after two and half years playing Rovers Return Landlady Stella Price.
Scriptwriters are currently working on a memorable and dramatic departure for the character which no doubt will devastate her daughters Leanne and Eva, played by Jane Danson and Catherine Tyldesley. – ITV
Michelle joined the cast in April 2011, making her first appearance in June of that year to a mixed response, many mocking her ‘iffy’ Yorkshire ‘Emmerdale‘ accent. ITV have noted that Collins will leave the programme at the end of her current contract, which runs until April 2014, and will be on screen until June 2014.
When an actor decides to leave a programme like Corrie, it means the writing team can creatively scale new heights. We promise the tour de force that is Stella Price will leave with a bang. We wish Michelle every happiness as she moves on to pastures new. – Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn
Stella is currently preparing to marry killer Karl Munro, who full of jealousy burned down the Rovers Return earlier in the year and cold heartedly left Sunita to perish in the flames. Hailed a hero for rescuing Stella from the inferno, Karl was then able to charm her once more before proposing to her. Now his lies are falling apart and it won’t be long before the truth is out.
Stella Price has been a revelation to play. So much has happened to the character since we discovered she was Leanne’s real Mum. From catching Karl with barmaid Sunita to her near death experience in the Rovers fire, I’ve loved playing Stella and will be very sorry to leave her behind. -Michelle Collins
Also departing Weatherfield is Stella’s mother Gloria played by Sue Johnston and Karl Munro, played by John Michie. Catherine Tyldesley who plays daughter Eva is currently set to remain with the programme. It was later revealed in a most unlikely twist that Stella had slept with layabout Les Battersby in order to be the mother of Jane Danson’s character of Leanne in the plots.
Beverley Callard is to return to Coronation Street as Liz MacDonald becoming Rovers Return landlady once more. Callard is back with the saga after a two year break.
