Former Friends actress Lisa Kudrow is to join ABC drama Scandal for its third series.
Deadline report the 50-year-old actress, best known as Phoebe Buffay in sitcom Friends, will appear in a recurring role as a powerful politician.
Its suggested the character will be called Shelley Meyers. Scandal is an American political thriller starring Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope.
Created by Shonda Rhimes, the lead character of Pope is loosely based on former George Bush administration press aide Judy Smith, who serves as a co-executive producer on the drama. The show takes place in Washington, D.C. and focuses on Olivia Pope’s crisis management firm, Pope & Associates, and its staff, as well as staff at the White House.
The series debuted on ABC last year, the second series is currently being repeated on Channel 4’s More4 in the UK and the third series airs later this year.
Kudrow’s other recent credits include HBO’s The Comeback and Showtime’s Web Therapy.
