GARY BARLOW THE X FACTORX Factor topped 9 million viewers for its first Sunday show of the 10th series.

The ITV talent contest returned on Saturday evening for its tenth series premier with Sharon Osbourne once again on the judges panel. Saturday’s evening of the X Factor pulled in 8.7 million viewers. Sunday evening’s instalment saw ratings climb by an impressive half a million viewers.

Between 8pm and 9pm the X Factor had 9.2 million viewers while a further 730,000 watched via the time-shift channel. Combining the two figures means Sunday’s show was watched by nearly 10 million viewers.

The X Factor boosted ratings for detective drama Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn, at 9pm as 4.9 million viewers tuned in; a rise of 300,000 on last week’s episode. BBC One drama What Remains, starring David Threlfall and Russell Tovey, tumbled in the ratings with 3.7 million viewers; down by 700,000 viewers.

Elsewhere on Sunday evening Celebrity Big Brother pulled in 1.7 million tuned in at 9pm for Channel 5.
