Radio Times reports that the 50th anniversary special, due to air in November, will be titled The Day of the Doctor. It has also been confirmed the special edition will be 75 minutes in length ending speculation over its duration. It was originally reported the special would be 60 minutes but when show-runner Steven Moffat described it as “film length” speculation rose it would be longer.
While 75 minutes isn’t, obviously, film length it is still longer than the standard episodes of Doctor Who which usually run for 45 minutes. The Day of the Doctor will feature series regulars Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman alongside returning favourites David Tennant and Billie Piper. Confirmed guest stars for the special include John Hurt, Joanna Page and Jemma Redgrave who is reprising her role of Kate Stewart.
The episode will feature the Daleks and returning monsters the Zygons who made their only solo appearance in the original series in the 1975 serial Terror of the Zygons which starred Tom Baker, Elisabeth Sladen, Nicholas Courtney, John Levene and Ian Marter.
Terror of the Zygons will be released on DVD on 30th September.
