Speaking to ITV’s Lorraine show the Corrie actress who has played Rita for five decades says the soap has kept her youthful as she turns 80.
Knox spoke to Dan Wootton for the ITV breakfast show as Barbara Knox lends her support to The Lorraine Inspirational Woman of the Year award. She spoke of the woman who inspired her;
My mother… she was what I would like me or Rita to be. My mother was a great person, very good, very kind, very funny and I thought if I can get some of that character in Rita, always trying to help people and be kind – that’s where my inspiration comes from.
Celebrating her 80th birthday at the end of the month and looking ahead to her 50th year on one of the UK’s most famous streets, Barbara added its Corrie that has kept her youthful,
I can’t believe I’m going to be 80! I just don’t feel as old as I should – which is ridiculous but it’s this programme that keeps you – it keeps you young!
Along with Barbara, the great and the good from the world of showbiz have shown their support for this 2013’s Lorraine Inspirational Woman of the Year Award.
Over the next fortnight viewers of Lorraine, fronted by breakfast stalwart Lorraine Kelly, will be invited to nominate their own inspirational woman, with three nominees being shortlisted and invited to attend the Women of the Year lunch on 14th October. The winner of the gong will be announced during the lunch and will be on ITV with Lorraine the following day.
The search for our Inspirational Woman of the Year uncovers stories of truly incredible women. They are exceptional role models, big hearted, loving and caring, and yet they don’t believe they are in any way special. It’s very emotional and a real honour to get to know them and I’m so looking forward to it. – Lorraine Kelly
Barbara Knox chatting to Dan Wootton can be seen on ITV’s Lorraine tomorrow, 8.30am-9.25am
