The fourth series of Downton Abbey will premier on ITV later this month.
Fans of the Julian Fellowes drama now have a date to pen in their diary for Downton Abbey will return to ITV on Sunday 22nd September at 9pm. As in previous series the prestigious drama, starring national treasure Dame Maggie Smith, will follow the X Factor.
Downton Abbey will be up against BBC One drama By Any Means but the ITV series should have the edge over the BBC newcomer. The fourth outing of the period drama will be the first not to feature Dan Stevens and Siobhan Finneran both of whom made their last appearances in the 2012 Christmas Special.
New additions for series four include actors Julian Ovenden, Tom Cullen, Gary Carr, Harriet Walter, Paul Giamatti and Nigel Harman as new valet Mr. Green. The series will deal with Lady Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) attempt to rebuild her life following the death of Matthew.
The fourth series will “largely” be set in 1922 and fan favourites such as Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Jim Carter and Allen Leech will be back with actress Lily James joining the main cast and Shirley MacLaine reprising her role of Martha Levinson.
