Peaky Blinders Launches To Strong Ratings as The Guilty Falls

Peaky BlindersBBC Two gangster drama Peaky Blinders launched with over 2 million viewers last night at 9pm as ITV drama The Guilty, starring Tamsin Greig and Katherine Kelly, saw ratings freefall but it was Educating Yorkshire which won the slot.

In a rare ratings victory Channel 4 had the top-rated show of 9pm yesterday as Educating Yorkshire – the follow up to Educating Essex – pulled in 3.3 million viewers. The factual series held steady on last week’s premier.

Ambitious new BBC Two drama Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory, got off to a decent start. The gangster drama is set in Birmingham in the aftermath of World War One as returning soldiers, gangsters and revolutionaries clash and battle for control of the cities streets. Peaky Blinders launched with 2.4 million viewers at 9pm.

ITV’s new drama The Guilty lost viewers at 9pm; last week’s opening instalment didn’t exactly perform well and this week’s ratings were even more woeful. Overnight figures reveal that the drama dropped to 2.9 million viewers losing a million from last week’s opener.

Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 performed well with 1.7 million viewers at 9pm.
