More than five million votes are expected to be cast during this years National Television Awards voting and those taking part now have a new category to ponder over.
The addition of TV Detective Of The Year has been introduced to reflect the current popularity of detective dramas ITV say.
The small screen currently has a long list of sleuths, and this latest award has no less than twenty six contenders.
The list of top detectives includes: Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, and David Tennant and Olivia Colman as Broadchurch’s DI Hardy and DS Miller.
The shortlist will be announced in January when the final round of voting begins. Hundreds of stars and thousands of fans will join host Dermot O’Leary at the O2 London on 22nd January 2014 as the results are revealed Live on ITV.

The only problem with viewer votes is sometimes popularity over quality wins, David Tennant is hugely popular, but surely David Suchet is a more worthy winner; but not as popular with the teenyboppers… we’ll see how that one goes in the dick award. – TV Critic Queenie
