David Mitchell fronts Was It Something I Said? for Channel 4

David MitchellComedian David Mitchell is to take charge of a new panel show for Channel 4.

Was It Something I Said? begins next month on the broadcaster and uses social media as a key part of the programme.

Two teams, captained by Micky Flanagan and Richard Ayoade, will be pitted against each other in a battle of word play answering questions based on sources including quotations, tweets and autobiographies as well as some of the teams very own one-liners to test their verbiage mettle. Featured quotes will be read out by a guest narrator every week including Charles Dance, Phil Daniels, and Mariella Fostrup. In a world first, viewers will be able to play along with the show via Twitter, and receive bonus content as they watch.

Panellists on episode one are comedian and presenter Jimmy Carr and actor, comedian and author Charlie Higson. The guest narrator is Homeland star David Harewood. Future guests include Robert Webb, Sally Phillips, Reginald D Hunter and Rhod Gilbert.

Was It Something I Said? incorporates the first use of Twitter as a dedicated playalong companion for a television show. Viewers are regularly directed to the show’s Twitter account by host David Mitchell and encouraged to answer questions at the same time as they are put to the TV panellists. The more answers that a viewer gives, the more extra bonus content they unlock – including behind the scenes clips and deleted scenes, as well as funny pictures, animated GIFs and bonus facts and jokes from the show’s panellists.

Was It Something I Said? launches on October 6th on Channel 4
