It looks as though the universe of NCIS is set to expand itself as a new pilot is in development for Spring 2014 which will be a spin-off based in New Orleans. The new spin-off will be executive produced by NCIS showrunner Gary Galsberg alongside series star Mark Harmon [pictured]
NCIS itself is a spin-off from JAG and has already spawned its own spin-off: NCIS Los Angeles. Last year CBS hoped to expand the franchise further by giving NCIS: Los Angeles its own spin-off. A back-door pilot was featured, for the spin-off, as part of NCIS: LA but CBS felt the series wouldn’t work.
The new spin-off is just one of several already in the works by different broadcasters. The CW is eying spin-offs from Supernatural and Arrow while AMC is developing a Walking Dead spin-off. Marvel meanwhile, depending on the success of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is considering an Agent Carter television series spun off from the Captain America movies.
This new season will see the launch of several spin-offs including one based in New Orleans. The Originals, spun-off from The Vampire Diaries, will star Joseph Morgan, Claire Holt and Daniel Gillies and is based in the city. Meanwhile NBC is expanding the Chicago Fire world after just one season with Chicago P.D while Once Upon A Time is getting companion series Once Upon A Time in Wonderland.
