The television spin-off from the Marvel movies is helmed by Joss Whedon and has been generating a lot of buzz over the past few months. It’s premier was sure to attract a lot of viewers and press attention; carefully reporting how many viewers tuned in and what kind of launch that gave the series.
According to overnight figures Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D premiered with 12.1 million viewers giving ABC its best drama premier in nearly five years. In terms of the 18-49 demo, the all important one for advertisers, the superhero drama had a whopping 4.7!
Up against the ABC drama at 8pm was NCIS which kicked off its new season on CBS with a huge 20 million viewers and a 3.6 18-49 rating. Earlier this week it was revealed CBS were eying a new spin-off from the top-rated drama. On NBC musical talent contest The Voice mustered 14.1 million viewers and a 4.6 rating.
At 9pm NCIS: Los Angeles pulled in 16.1 million viewers giving it a 3.0 18-49 rating. On ABC large chunk of the audience stuck around for The Goldbergs which was seen by 9.1 million viewers and had a 3.2 18-49 rating. It was followed by Trophy Wife on ABC at 9.30 which mustered 6.6 million viewers and a 2.3 18-49 rating for its series premier.
At 10pm the return of Chicago Fire to NBC was a ratings winner with 9.2 million viewers and a 2.8 18-49 rating.
