ITV Granada weatherman and former This Morning weather presenter Fred Talbot has been re-arrested as investigations into alleged historical sex offences take place.
The 63-year-old who currently is off-air from his role at Salford-based ITV Granada, as their local news meteorologist, has been absent from screens since March when he was first questioned about sex abuse claims dating back to Talbot’s former career as a teacher. At the time of his initial arrest the ITV personality was on holiday.
His second arrest follows further claims of indecent assault and serious sexual assault in relation to five former pupils of a Altrincham based school in Greater Manchester as well as separate allegations stemming from complaints lodged of potential offences which took place in the North East of England.
The latest claims follow the original April questioning over four former pupils at Altrincham Grammar School which he was held in relation to sex offences which it is claimed took place in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Greater Manchester Police today released a statement on Talbot without naming the presenter:
On Tuesday 9 April 2013, a 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of historic sex offences in relation to allegations of abuse against four former pupils who attended Altrincham Grammar School for Boys during his time as a teacher there.
He remains on police bail in relation to one count of indecent assault. No further action has been taken in relation to the other offences he was originally arrested on suspicion of.
Today, Monday 16 December 2013, he was further arrested on suspicion of indecent assaults and buggery in relation to five other former pupils. He was also arrested on suspicion of indecent assault in relation offences alleged to have occurred in the North East of England.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
