John Thaw’s A Year In Provence comes to DVD

ATV Today: Photo: Wine bottles, emptyA Year In Provence is to be released on DVD for the first time in its complete, unedited format.

Peter Mayle’s much-loved best-seller was brought to life by the BBC in their 1993 adaptation, which is to be released on DVD as originally broadcast by Second Sight.

Starring one of the UK’s best loved and esteemed actors John Thaw the drama also stars Lindsay Duncan as the Mayles.

Leaving their jobs and the rat race behind them, the Mayles head off to the South of France, seduced by the prospect of an idyllic rural life in the sun. They soon discover the reality to be somewhat different however, as one outlandish comic situation follows another and a succession of colourful characters constantly interrupt their pan for a quiet life.

A Year In Provence originally aired to an audience of 14.5 million on BBC One over 12 episodes. Now those episodes, unedited will form part of the two disc set of the series which is to be released on March 24th 2014.

A previous DVD containing an edited version of the show had been released in 2008.
