RTE ONEIrish broadcaster RTÉ is to extend its deal with the corporation allowing it to continue broadcasting popular UK programmes including EastEnders.

BBC Worldwide and RTÉ have signed a multiannual extension to their agreement which provides for the transmission of some of the BBC’s best known programmes by the Irish public service national broadcaster.

The agreement takes in programmes across a range of television genres including drama, comedy, natural history, factual and children’s.

RTÉ is delighted to be continuing its long term relationship with BBC Worldwide. It will bring Irish viewers a rich variety of the highest quality programming from drama to natural history, documentaries to children’s programming.

Earlier this week ITV Northern Ireland broadcaster UTV announced it had signed a deal to launch UTV Ireland in the country by 2015. UTV Ireland will screen some of ITV’s best known productions. Some currently seen on established Irish TV networks.
