With their single St Peters released on March 23rd the two brothers in their early 20s from the Isle of Wight are to perform at The Lexington, Islington’s best known music venue and lounge bar later this month having recently supported The Jezabels on their UK tour.
Hailing from the tiny village of Niton, just outside Ventnor, Michael and David were originally in different bands but once they began to write together they developed a unique and striking depth to their vocal harmonies. Working with a pair of tape machines, they worked out how to multi-track by listening to Sleepy Jackson, Flaming Lips, Arcade Fire and Revolver-period Beatles. Other CHAMPS influences include Fleet Foxes and early REM, especially Murmur.
With eerie vocals that will make listeners hold their breath and listen in the manner of Bon Ivor, their debut Down Like Gold is a perfect break-up album – Press Association
The boys’ album Down Like Gold is currently on sale. CHAMPS make to the stage at the Lexington on March 31st.
