Although Push the Button opened strongly for the broadcaster two weeks ago it has since lost a sizable portion of its audience. The game-show lost out on Saturday evening to the finale of Let’s Dance for Sports Relief on BBC One.
Ant and Dec’s new ITV game-show continued its rating dive on Saturday evening as it lost nearly one million viewers on the last week. It’s the second week in a row that that Push the Button has lost part of its audience after its strong opening two weeks ago. The game-show opened with 6.6 million viewers two weeks ago with many heralding it as a new success for the Geordie duo but ATV News was more cautious warning that it was ratings for subsequent instalments that would prove to be important for the duo and not the opening episode – which always has more viewer interest. We were right to be cautious because the last two editions of Push the Button have seen ratings dive. Last week 5.8 million viewers tuned in but this week ratings fell below the 5 million mark with 4.9 million viewers according to early figures. This means since Push the Button launched it has lost nearly 2 million viewers however, next week’s episode may seem some improvement in the ratings as it won’t be up against Let’s Dance for Sports Relief. It was a good night for Let’s Dance for Sports Relief as the celebrity dancing competition on BBC One has proved to be a ratings winner for the channel. Saturday evening saw the finale of Let’s Dance for Sports Relief had an average audience of 7.1 million viewers for BBC One between 7pm and 8.15 but audiences peaked at 8 million during the competition. The results show later in the evening, when Rufus Hound won with his impression of Cheryl Cole, had 7.6 million viewers at 9pm. The National Lottery show had 6.2 million viewers while medical drama Casualty 5.7 million viewers – beating Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh’s interview with Piers Morgan for the former Mirror editors ITV chat-show, Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, which had 4 million viewers. Elsewhere on Saturday evening BBC Two had 1.3 million for Highlights from the Lambing Shed and Five had 1.5 million for an episode of American crime series NCIS.
