ITV and Ant & Dec will be sighing in relief after ratings for new game-show Push the Button rose on Saturday night, the first time since its premier several weeks ago. When it launched on ITV1 with 6.6 million viewers it was heralded as a new success but following weeks saw ratings tumble by nearly 2 million and last week it fell below 5 million as viewers opted for Let’s Dance for Sports Relief. However, with the absence of any real competition on Saturday evening and BBC One only offering coverage of Rugby to entice viewers Push the Button saw a much needed rise in viewers. According to figures 5.5 million viewers watched Ant and Dec compared to 5.1 million for the France and England Rugby Game.
It was a dull night elsewhere for viewers with little on offer; CSI: New York had 2 million for Five while Channel Four’s repeat of the movie Titanic had 1.9 million viewers. BBC Two struggled with viewers though as Michael Portillo: Power to the People didn’t make the million mark with only just over 800,000 viewers.
