X FactorSimon Cowell is reportedly furious over the X Factor’s drop in ratings.

The live shows of this year’s X Factor have seen lower ratings than previous years and have also declined slightly week-on-week. The X Factor still dominates the ratings for ITV but the weekend just gone by the gap between it and BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing narrowed as the dancing competition gained viewers while the X Factor reportedly lost viewers. According to The Sun a furious Simon Cowell – who is currently running the American X Factor – has phoned the show’s UK bosses about the fall.

“Simon is furious. This would never have happened on his watch and he wants the team to know this and sort it out. He knows there is great talent on the show, but he thinks 2011 Judgesthe attention to detail has been shocking. The acts are not being showcased at their best.  Say what you like about Simon, but he spends ages dithering over the tiny details to make sure everything is perfect. There’s no way he would have sanctioned some of those song outfits or choices.” – An “insider” quoted by The Sun

There has also been media reports of in-fighting between the judges and between the acts themselves. Last week’s “twist” in which the judges each had to send one of their own acts home instead of facing a public vote was widely criticised by viewers and perhaps could be partly why ratings have declined. The line-up of the judges for this year’s series is also different with Louis Walsh the only returnee from previous seasons with Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland and Tulisa Contostavlos replacements for the departed Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue. It was hoped, by producers, that introducing three new judges to the X Factor would breath new life into it.
