Former Lost and Lie to Me producer Steven Maeda is to join ABC’s 1960s based drama Pan Am as a showrunner.
The glamorous drama starring Christina Ricci launched on ABC in September and the broadcaster had high hopes for it. However, while it launched to a strong 10 million viewers its audience levels have dropped since and ABC is now trying to give Pan Am a bit of extra promotion to boost flagging figures. The broadcaster has revealed that Maeda will be joining as a showrunner and executive producer alongside Jack Orman and Tommy Schlamme.
ABC has yet order a full season worth of episodes for Pan Am which is likely to do with its flagging ratings – the drama has seen figures drop below 6 million viewers. ABC has handed season orders to fellow new series’ Revenge and Suburgatory but was quick to dispatch the revived Charlie’s Angels when its ratings dropped and continued to do so. Some are now speculating that Pan Am will be the new drama to be culled.
