Teri Hatcher has stated she is open to reprising her role of Lois Lane.
Hatcher is quoted by the Radio Times as saying “I would love to do something Superman….Lois with Dean [Cain who played Superman] or whatever, but I don’t know what it is. That’s the thing. Until there’s actually something real I don’t know what it is. But am I open minded? Sure.”
Hatcher may be better known these days for her role of Susan Delfino on ABC’s soapy drama Desperate Housewives but back in the 1990s she was better known as Lois Lane. The actress played the journalist in ABC’s Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman which ran for four seasons between 1993 and 1997. Hatcher starred alongside Dean Cain who played Clarke Kent/Superman in the drama.
With English actor Henry Cavill the latest actor to portray Superman on the big-screen in the box office hit Man of Steel its perhaps unsurprising that Hatcher has been quizzed about her involvement in the franchise and whether she’d like to play Lois once more.
The actress also revealed she had seen Man of Steel and like others felt the fight-scenes went on for too long;
“I did see it. I did like it. I thought the fighting at the end went on a bit too long. That was my only criticism. But you know, it’s really fun to have been a part of a story that keeps getting re-told over decades of time and I think everybody that gets to play those roles just brings a different, unique, fresh quality. There’s certain advancements technology-wise in the way they’re able to do special effects and all kinds of things and so yeah, I’m as entertained by it as I was when we did it.”
Man of Steel has been a box-office hit with a sequel in development and a crossover film featuring Batman also announced. However, while it may have taken the money at the box-office the film has had a mixed reception with a lot of criticism aimed at the film’s heavy use of special effects.
Following the axing of Lois and Clark the actress appeared in the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies opposite Pierce Brosnan (as 007) and Jonathan Pryce as Elliot Carver a character based on media mogul Robert Maxwell rather than Rupert Murdoch as widely assumed.
Hatcher’s involvement in the Superman franchise didn’t end in with the cancellation of Lois and Clark. In 2010 she had a small cameo role in The CW’s Smallville as Ella Lane.
