The fall out from Sunday’s result show continues today, with host Dermot O’Leary talking about how events unfolded.
The Sun newspaper headline today reads ‘Dermot – “It Was Fixed”’ as he speaks about what happened on Sunday’s show. Although on further reading he doesn’t actually say it was fixed, he does however talk of what he was told by the bosses in his ear of what to do.
In an interview with The Sun, Dermot said he was told in his ear, “If Cheryl decides to opt out we go to majority vote…We talked about it in the break because you find out two or three minutes before what’s going to happen. My producer said, ‘Look, if Cheryl decides to opt out we go to majority vote’. She did decide to opt out – and then she said, ‘Come back to me and we’ll do deadlock’.”
On Sunday many fans were outraged that Cheryl Cole had decided not to vote for which one of her acts she wanted out of the competition. Usual procedure on the show has seen the judge who has an act in the bottom two asked last who they want to eliminate, but this time Cheryl was asked second. It appears the rule on the night was that if Cheryl does not vote, they will go with the majority vote, but due to Cheryl saying come back and we’ll do deadlock, many fans have wondered if the show had been fixed to save controversial contestant Katie Waissel. Treyc Cohen was eliminated after Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh chose to send her home over Katie.
A spokesperson for the show has stated that there are no set rules for the show.
