The X FactorA fifth Judge could be added to the X Factor panel to avoid a repeat performance of Sunday evening’s controversial edition which saw Cheryl Cole refuse to cast her vote and Treyc Cohen booted off the competition. According to The Sun the addition of a fifth Judge is almost certain to happen after Simon Cowel met with fans of The X Factor and billionaire Sir Phillip Green to discuss how the show could be improved.

“Simon is still figuring out exactly how it will work. On one level it could mean that if one of the judges opted out of voting it could still go to deadlock if the others were split 2-2. But the danger is if they all had voting rights and chose to vote it would never go to deadlock. Simon has always thought a guest judge on live shows would bring some extra drama to proceedings. And he hopes they will shoot from the hip and put a rocket under the rest of the judges, who often bite their tongues.” – A “Source” quoted in The Sun

A fifth Judge on the X Factor panel would almost certainly slow proceedings down but if guest performers were used as the fifth judge each week that would be one way to get around things. That would mean a different judge each week but would involve guest performers such as Kylie Minogue in the competition. It would also mean that previous winners of The X Factor such as Joe McElderry, Shayne Ward and Alexandra Burke might be called upon to act as a “guest judge” – all have returned to the competition since winning to perform.
