According to overnight ratings over 800,000 viewers watched the BBC Four drama The Road to Coronation Street last night. ITV’s crime legal drama Law & Order UK took a tumble in the ratings.

 

 

 

As ever we start our ratings round up with the breakfast television slots and as ever Breakfast won with 1.4 million viewers compared with Daybreak’s 800,000 viewers. Don’t forget this week’s poll is on whether ITV should ditch the new Adrian Chiles/Christine Bleakley fronted programme and revert back to GMTV.

At 7pm The One Show – with guest Dame Edna Everage – had 4 million viewers at 7pm. The magazine show was down ever so slightly on Wednesday’s evenings audience but the show – presented by Alex Jones and Matt Baker for last night – is still pulling in strong ratings. On BBC Two at 7pm was coverage of the Pope’s controversial visit to the UK which had 1.2 million viewers. Emmerdale on ITV1 was seen by 6 million viewers while Channel Four News had 600,000 viewers. At 7.30 EastEnders pulled in 8 million viewers while Coast on BBC Two attracted 2 million viewers. Keeping The Faith, a Tonight programme, on ITV1 had 2.3 million viewers at 7.30pm.

At 8pm consumer rights programme Watchdog, fronted by Anne Robinson, had 4.1 million viewers while ITV1’s second helping of Emmerdale saw a slight rise in viewers with 6.3 million viewers. At 8.30pm Coronation Street had 7.1 million viewers while Channel Four’s Location, Location, Location pulled in 2.3 million viewers. At 9pm BBC One’s documentary The Young Ones had 4.1 million viewers, BBC Two’s Gareth Malone’s Extraordinary School for Boys was seen by 1.6 million viewers. The third series of Law & Order UK took a tumble for its second episode on ITV1 at 9pm. The crime/legal drama, starring Jamie Bamber and Freema Agyeman, had 4 million viewers.

On BBC Four at 9pm was The Road to Coronation Street which charted the creation of the Granada soap. The drama was part of BBC Four’s ‘The North’ season and also ties in with the soaps 50th anniversary in a few months time. The drama starred Jessie Wallace, Celia Imrie and Lynda Baron playing the actors associated with the soap in its early days and according to overnight ratings it was seen by 860,000 viewers.
