Twilight-posterTwilight may have won the hearts of millions of teenagers around the world but the vampire franchise has failed to impress some in the right way as Breaking Dawn: Part Two picks up 11 nominations in the annual Razzie awards!

The Razzie awards were launched in 1980 as an alternative to the Oscars, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards all of which have prestige and glamour associated with them. The Razzie’s are the awards ceremony most actors and directors don’t want to be nominated in though a few over the years have take their nomination/win in good spirit.

Twilight will doubtless be nominated for countless teen awards where their millions of fans will loyally vote for them. Stars of the franchise may not be so quick to urge their followers to vote in the Razzies though. Lead stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have both been nominated for their respective role while Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part Two also picks up nominations for worst screenplay and worst picture.

ATV Today critic Queenie Le Trout isn’t surprised Twilight has received so many nominations. “I had the misfortune of sitting through the first Twilight film two weeks ago; it was quite possibly the worst bloody film I have ever seen. I much prefer True Blood or The Vampire Diaries where the vampires actually kick-ass. Twilight is obviously a film for dumb teenagers with nothing better to do than obsess over Bella and Edward.”

However, the film franchise isn’t the only flick to pick up quite a few nominations as Adam Sandler comedy That’s My Boy has also received 8 nominations. That’s My Boy and Twilight are up against Battleship, A Thousand Words and Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure in the worst picture category. In the worst actor category Sandler and Pattinson face Nicholas Cage, Eddie Murphy and Tyler Perry. Kirsten Stewart meanwhile faces Barbara Streisand, Milla Jovovich and Katherine Heigl.

The winners of the Razzies are selected by a 650 member panel and also reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website. The Razzies award ceremony will take place on 23rd February conveniently a day before the Oscars!
