The third season finale of The Vampire Diaries saw Trevino’s character of Tyler Lockwood ‘possessed’ by the spirit of Klaus (Joseph Morgan). The original vampire was transferred into the body of Tyler by Bonnie (Kat Graham) to prevent his death at the hands of Alaric (Matt Davis) thus killing the vampire’s entire bloodline which includes Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).

“I’d like to take a crack at playing Klaus….I think it’d be fun.” – Michael Trevino speaking to TV Guide

In the final episode Alaric staked the body of Klaus causing it to burn but producer Julie Plec has stated that actor Joseph Morgan will return for the fourth season meaning, at some point, Klaus will return to his original body. The final few episodes of The Vampire Diaries’ third season saw a new love triangle emerge involving Caroline (Candice Accola), Tyler and Klaus making the vampire’s ‘possession’ of the hybrid particularly interesting!
