Poll: Should The BBC Bring Back Eldorado?

Poll: Should The BBC Bring Back Eldorado?

The BBC is being urged to bring back its 1990s Spanish soap Eldorado but should the corporation revive the short-lived series?

As we reported yesterday the BBC is coming under some (mild) pressure to bring back Eldorado, possibly as a daytime soap, as a much needed tonic for viewers in these dark times of austerity and coalition government.

The successful revival of Dallas and other shows such as Doctor Who has seemingly given some confidence that Eldorado can pull the same trick.

Set in the fictional Spanish village of Los Barcos the series followed the lives of British ex-pats living the sunshine lifestyle and the dramas that surrounded them. The production followed that of Liverpool based saga Brookside, with no studio sets, the entire production was made in a £2million mocked up village for both external and internal scenes. However unlike the scouse counterpart the sunshine saga suffered from lighting and sound problems in the early episodes.

A revived Crossroads failed to lure in enough viewers to keep ITV bosses happy.

Is the BBC likely to bring back a soap that still haunts it to this day? Eldorado is almost as infamous for its “dodgy acting” and set issues as the midlands soap Crossroads but both reputations are undeserved but both have stuck and refuse to go away. The press would most likely be out to get Eldorado (again) from day one if the Beeb were to bring it back.

Maybe you think other soaps deserve the slot, would a fourth attempt at Crossroads be a good idea, would Brookside work as a daytime serial or maybe Albion Market should reopen its gates?

What do you think? Should the BBC bring back Eldorado? Or is it best left as a distant memory? The poll is on the right side of our website between the Recent Stories & Recent Comments boxes.

The results will be published on ATV Today in the near future.

Albion Market was supposed to be a sister serial to Coronation Street, however the market closed after just a year.
