Katherine Geywitz speaking on behalf of Save the Children:

“We’re shocked and saddened to hear the news that Paul O’ Grady, a long-standing Ambassador of Save the Children, has passed away. Paul will be remembered not just for his inimitable warmth and humour, but as a tireless campaigner and advocate for children around the world. He was not afraid to be outspoken and call out those in power to do more. ‘We have a moral duty to protect the young’ – these were his words, and we’re so grateful that he took it upon himself to support children through his work with us.

“Paul was a fierce campaigner for children’s rights. In 2008, he visited South Africa to see Save the Children’s work supporting orphans and children living with HIV. He was a tireless advocate for our work tackling child poverty in Bangladesh. He was also heavily involved in Save the Children’s ‘Knit one, Save one’ campaign, encouraging the nation to knit woolly hats to protect babies around the world from the cold. More recently, Paul spent the last decade championing our child poverty campaign, raising awareness of the challenges faced by children and families across the UK.”
