Roo and Marilyn meet in the middle after their clash over Eliza’s behaviour. Marilyn is apologetic for accusing the foster child of stealing, just as Roo gets a call from Tane that something bad happened at the youth program. Tane explains that Eliza hurt one of the boys in the class, and it wasn’t an accident. When confronted about it, Eliza spins a lie that he told her Roo doesn’t really care about her.
Later, at the Diner, Eliza’s caught with the ultrasound photo. She admits she stole it, assuming her fascination with the life growing inside Harper is justification for such an act. Roo drags her to the gym so she can apologise. She returns the scan photo to Tane, who’s initially confused as to why she would take it.
Roo mentions Eliza’s fascination with all things medical but that doesn’t stop him from wondering how she could do something so creepy. Tane invites Roo over for a private chat, where he flags that Eliza has some deeper issues and the program might not be the right place for her. Naturally, Roo stands up for her foster child, so Tane gives her some ground rules if she’d like to keep attending. After they leave Tane’s, Eliza lashes out at Roo, telling her she means nothing to her and leaving Roo devastated.
