Bets Surge for 50/1 Cardinal in Next Pope Betting Market…
Almost 300,000 users have checked the latest odds in the Next Pope betting market on Oddschecker since it launched last month. During that time, Pietro Parolin and Luis Antonio Tagle have consistently led the betting.
While they remain the frontrunners, a long-shot candidate is starting to attract significant attention from online bettors.
Oddschecker UK Country Manager, Sam Eaton:
“Outsiders shouldn’t be discounted in the Next Pope betting market. Back in 2013, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was 50/1 just two days before being elected.”
“We likely won’t have long to wait either – bookmakers have May 8th as the favourite for the date of the Papal announcement at 6/5. May 9th follows at 7/4, while tomorrow is considered unlikely at 11/1.”
In the past month, Jose Tolentino has become the fourth most backed Cardinal in the market, accounting for 7% of all bets placed. That’s a notable rise from the previous month, where he captured just 2% of the market and ranked as the ninth most backed candidate.
Despite the uptick in support, Tolentino remains a 50/1 outsider in the market.
Pietro Parolin continues to be the market favourite, although his odds have drifted from 9/4 to 11/4 in recent days. Similarly, Luis Antonio Tagle has seen his odds ease from 3/1 to 7/2.
