Within hours of the Trump v Musk spat erupting on social media, Channel 4 commissioned ITN Productions to produce Musk v Trump: The Showdown, the latest in a series of fast turnaround documentaries for the broadcaster. The one-off hour-long programme documents the very public fallout between President Trump and his former Head of DOGE, Elon Musk.

They were two halves of the world’s most powerful bromance until it all came tumbling down and descended into a tit for tat online slanging match on a global scale. Once the accusations started to fly Elon Musk and Donald Trump accused each other of incompetencies, wrongdoing and scandal.

This film will explore the fall out for America and the rest of the world, as the gloves come off, and ask what both men may do next.

Is Elon Musk learning that politics is a tougher game than he expected, and can Donald Trump afford the world’s richest loose cannon anywhere other than on his side?  Will Musk take his enormous wealth and influence and throw it behind another party or politician? Or is this another move from Trump’s playbook of chaos and will he orchestrate a surprise reconciliation?
